Laser Periodontal Therapy Post-Op Instructions
Following periodontal treatment with a laser, you should have no or little bleeding. If bleeding occurs, place firm pressure on the area that is bleeding using the gauze provided to you. Wet the gauze before applying pressure for 5 minutes.
Some discomfort is possible, depending on the severity of your disease. An individual needing more aggressive treatment is more likely to have some pain or swelling than a person needing mild or limited treatment. For pain relief we recommend:
-600 mg Ibuprofen OR 1000 mg Acetominophen (Tylenol) every six hours until pain subsides
If the pain is not alleviated you may try combining the Ibuprofen and Tylenol in the following manner:
-600 mg ibuprofen and 500 mg Acetominophen (Tylenol) every six hours
If you are allergic to any of these medications, or are under a physicians orders not to take them, please do not take them and contact our office immediately for other options.
Carefully brush your teeth around the healing gums using a soft bristled toothbrush. Use only light pressure for one week. Use a mouthwash to supplement brushing as well.
Avoid injuring the healing gum tissue with objects such as toothpicks for 3 months. Also, if you have any appointments with our hygienist, kindly remind her not to take measurements around the teeth we treated for 3 months.
